Aucuba
Aucuba is an evergreen that grows to 4-5′ with a spread of 3-4′ with medium density foliage that is 4-8″ long. This tree flowers in March with inconspicuous panicles 2-5 inches long with berries in the winter. Dioecious, plant both sexes to ensure fruiting. Foliage is deep green with brownish-white flower and red berries.

- Soil – medium drainage, high fertility, prefers heavy soils
- Moisture – medium to high
- Pruning – keep plant low and compact
- Pest problems – spider mites and scale
- Growth rate – slow to moderate
Aucuba is excellent for dark corners or shady locations. May be grown in planter boxes. Foliage is useful in flower arrangements.
