Daisy Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides)

Best known for its lush, rounded habit and wonderfully fragrant flowers, the Daisy Gardenia is a superb cold-tender evergreen shrub native to East Asia.  From late spring to early fall, the cold and heat hardy cultivar Daisy bears waxy, ivory colored flowers whose single petals resemble windmill blades.   The dense glossy foliage provides year round interest.  Whether used as a specimen or in a mixed shrub boarder, this is a beautiful and rewarding landscape ornamental.  In colder temperatures, may be container grown and overwintered in sunny indoor locations.

  • Broadleaf Evergreen
  • Grows 3-5′
  • Blooms: late spring to early fall
  • Family:  Rublaceae
  • Soil:  Acidic, evenly moist soils with good drainage crucial for plant health and successful blooming
  • Full or partial sun
  • Needs good air to discourage foliar diseases
  • Zones 7-10

Frostproof / Dwarf Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides ‘Frostproof’)

Everything about this Gardenia is just a little tougher and more resilient than previous varieties.  It is far more proof; standing up to late spring chills without dropping a bud.  Yet it also takes more sun than most Gardenias.  By far, it is the most deer-resistant cultivar, with exceptional thick, narrow foliage that turns away nibbling critters.  Frostproof sets huge, fully double blooms of pure white, symmetrical in form an unbelievably fragrant.  The flowers begin in late spring and continue for weeks into summer.  Pick all you like for indoor arrangements. This evergreen shrub is very bushy and well branched, making a good perimeter planting, hedge or fountain plantings.  It keeps its rich leaf color and tight appearance through winter, always looking its best.

This shrub is easy care, blooms first year, double blooms, evergreen, frangrant, pest resistant, cold hardy, deer resistant, disease resistant.
